[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for handling tins or like receptacles used, for example, for baking bread, comprises means for propelling the tins and guiding means which include a loop or bend in which the tins are automatically inverted as their direction of travel is reversed, the guiding means also supporting the inverted tins. As shown, tins a containing baked loaves are placed on a conveyer consisting of a pair of parallel endless chains d having platforms extending there between for supporting the tins with projections c for propelling them. The conveyer carries the tins between a pair of rails f and then between a pair of vertical plates g, each having an arcuate groove h bounded by a flange i, the grooves being concentric with the chain sprockets j. As the tins are propelled round the grooves h, they are supported by wheels k whilst a guideplate m prevents the loaves dropping from the tins until these pass over a shoot o down which the loaves fall on to a conveyer n. The empty tins are then propelled by the projections e from the flanges i along supporting rails p until they come over a conveyer extending at right-angles to the chains d, on to which they fall to be carried away for re-filling with dough. The empty tins may be sprayed by a pneumatically-operated grease gun positioned beneath the rails p, the gun being actuated by a solenoid controlled by a mercury switch which is tilted by a lever operated by a projection on a disc mounted on a shaft above the rails and having fingers projecting into the path of the tins.
