Abstract
700,974. Endless conveyers. BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1950 [Sept. 22, 1949], No. 24347/49. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XII] In a swing tray conveyer for an oven or other bakery unit having trays with upstanding guard lips along their front and rear margins, means are provided for effecting, at the discharging and/or charging station, a relative displacement between one or both of said lips and the tray bottom or tin support to eliminate temporarily the guard function of the lip or lips so that the tins may be transferred over a lip to or from a tray by a sliding action, the means further operating to reinstate the relative positioning of the lip or lips and the tray bottom or tin support after charging and/or discharging so that the guard function of the lips is restored. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, juxtaposed charging and discharging stations A and B are located on the upwardly running lip of the conveyer near the front of the oven, and, in order to allow the passage of the baking tins, as each tray 1 approaches these stations the front guard lip 4 is lowered by a rocking arm 17 which has a roller 20 urged against a cam plate 11 by a spring 21 and is formed with a toothed segment 16 meshing with a corresponding segment 15 mounted on the shaft 13 on which the guard lip 4 is pivoted. As the conveyer moves further the roller 20 travels round the cam 11 which is so set that said roller passes over the cam recess 23 as each tray approaches the discharging station. After the lip 4 is lowered, the tray is tilted by one or more pivoted arms 26 each having a roller 27 contacting either or both of the tray end plates 2 and the tins coming into contact with a fixed buffer are slid over the lip 4, pivoted flap 29, and shoot 24 on to a discharge conveyer or table 35. At the loading station A, charging of the tins from a belt 36 is effected by pusher gear 37, the tray being kept horizontal by a roller 32 on the end plate 2 engaging a guide rail 33 and as the tray leaves the loading station the roller 20 engages the concentric portion 22 of the cam 11 raising the guard lip 4. In a modification of the lip-operating means, Fig. 6 (not shown), the roller 20 is urged against the cam by a balance weight and a spring under tension and in a further modification of this, Fig. 7 (not shown), the toothed segments 15 and 16 are replaced by single levers. Another embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), comprises a tray tilting device wherein a roller on a rotating arm contacts a boss on each tray as it approaches the discharge station causing it to tilt and to discharge its contents, and also comprises provision for expansion of the tray conveyer by mounting the conveyer sprocket axle and the aforementioned rotating arm axle on arms pivoted to the oven structure, the two axles being interconnected by sprocket gearing and also by a distance link.
