Abstract
Benzoic acid - 4 - (N - dimethyl) - sulphonamide, benzoic acid - 4 - sulphopiperidide, and benzoic acid - 4 - sulphomorpholide are converted to their acid chlorides by reaction with thionyl chloride.ALSO:1 - Acylamino - 4 - [(N - dialkyl) - sulphonamidobenzoylamino] - anthraquinones or 1-acylamino - 4 - [(N - dialkylene) - sulphonamidobenzoylamino]-anthraquinones in which the alkylene residues are interconnected to form a ring, are made by a process wherein a 1-amino-4-acylaminoanthraquinone is treated with an acylating agent, and these reactants are so chosen that the product contains in one amino group the residue of a pyridine carboxylic acid or of a quinoline carboxylic acid and in the other amino group the residue of an N-dialkylsulphonamido-benzoic acid or of an N-dialkylene sulphonamido-benzoic acid in which the alkylene residues are interconnected to form a ring. The anthraquinone may contain a further substituent, e.g. a b -halogen atom. The 1-amino - 4 - acylaminoanthraquinones may be prepared by acylation of a 1-nitro-4-aminoanthraquinone, and reduction of the nitro group. The products dye wool, silk, cotton, linen, regenerated cellulose, and polyvinyl fibres pink shades. In examples: 1-(p-sulphodimethylamido - benzoylamino) - 4 - aminoanthraquinone is reacted with (1) pyridine-b -carboxylic acid chloride, and (2) quinoline-6-carboxylic acid chloride, and (3) the corresponding 7-chloranthraquinone is reacted with quinoline - 6 - carboxylic acid chloride. Also in examples, benzoic acid 4-(N-dimethyl)-sulphonamide, benzoic acid 4-sulphopiperidide, and benzoic acid 4-sulphomorpholide are each connected to their chlorides and these are reacted with (4) 1 - (pyridine - 31 - carboylamino)-, and (5) 1 - (quinoline - 61 - carboylamino) - 4-amino - 6 - chloranthraquinone. Other products are listed. The Specification as open extended to heterocyclic carboxylic acids generally as well as pyridine and quinoline carboxylic acids, and specified thiophene and furane carboxylic acids.
