Abstract

646,012. Ball mills. SOC. ANON. USINES. E. HENRICOT. Sept. 11, 1946, No. 27344. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1943. [Class 59] A ball mill having a lining provided with cells which form partial seats for the balls is characterized in that, for at least part of the lining, the cells are arranged in the form of a network of regular polygons which have at the maximum four sides the length of which is equal to the mean diameter of the ball load. The lining consists of base plate 4 cast with projections 5 which support the balls and with intermediate projections 11 of less height than the projections 5. The projections 5 are so disposed that a layer of balls 6 resting thereon is arranged in the form of a square network. In a modification, Fig. 4, the projections 5 produce a network of equilateral triangles, further projections 14, of greater height than the projections 5, being provided. In a mill where a number of various sizes of balls are employed, e.g. a conical mill. the lining may consist of a corresponding number of portions of appropriate sizes, so that the dimensions of the lining and the size of the balls decrease from the inlet end to the outlet end of the mill. These arrangements of projections are stated to give a maximum stability to the structure of balls which, as the mill rotates, attain a greater height before falling, producing a greater crushing effect. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also an arrangement wherein the projections 5 produce a network of isosceles triangles. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
