Abstract

645,026. Hydraulic hopper discharge apparatus. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and SILK, P. B. Dec. 9, 1947, No. 32404. [Class 78 (i)] In hydraulic hopper discharge apparatus provided with means for directing a jet of liquid across the hopper bottom, the jet is directed towards means which restrict its upward projection and which divert across the outlet at least its most quickly moving parts. The hopper 4, Fig. 1, has a number of outlets 5 at the bottom of the front wall 6 through which ash is discharged by jets of water from nozzles 33, 34 to a sluice-way 10. A casing 11 having a door 12 extends over the sluice-way and around each outlet 5. Each casing contains an air seal door 13, which in the closed position makes contact with vertical side-plates 15 and the bottom of a shoot 14 over which ash passes to the sluice-way. A transverse member 20 extends across the width of the hopper and has a depending flange 23 to which is hinged opposite each outlet a baffle plate 24. Each plate is prevented from swinging under the pressure of the ash by a rod 26 inserted through a sleeve 27 and is provided with a lug 25 by which it may be raised to permit inspection of the floor. Adjacent each baffle plate and extending between the floor and the member 20 is a vertical deflecting member 30, Fig. 2, which has concave sides disposed across each of which is a horizontal plate 44 in a plane slightly above that of the nozzles 34. Refractory blocks 31 having steeply-inclined sides 32 are disposed between each pair of members 30.
