Abstract

644,387. Grinding and crushing. AMANCIC, F. K. June 24, 1947, Nos. 16627 and 16628. Convention dates, July 12, 1946 and May 14, 1947. [Class 59] Apparatus for the disintegration of materials comprises a rotor disc revolving within a peripheral ring of chambers or cells inclined forwardly in the direction of rotation of the rotor, the rotor disc being provided at or near its periphery with grinding or eddying members, which, at least at their edges remote from the rotor disc, are similarly inclined with respect to the inner periphery of the ring of chambers or cells at an angle substantially equal to the angle of inclination of the admission surfaces of said chambers to said periphery, said eddying members extending in the direction of the rotor axis at least along the whole length of said chambers. In one construction a disc 6, Figs. 1, 2, provided on its front face with beaters 7, arranged near the centre, and with guides 8 at the periphery and on its rear face with guides 9, revolves within a cylindrical casing 1 to the inside of which are fixed two rings of chambers or cells 10, 11, the cells being inclined forwardly in the direction of rotation of the disc and open at one end, the length of the chambers in the direction of the rotor axis being less than the length of the surrounding casing. The admission or forward faces of the cells are inclined at the same angle #, Fig. 7, to the radii of the rotor as are the guides 8, 9. The ring of chambers 10, surrounding the members 8, extends all round the periphery of the casing 1, while the ring of chambers 11, surrounding the members 9, extends only around the upper part of the casing, the lower part being formed with a discharge grating 12. This grating may be in the form of pivoted slots 24, Fig. 21, given a variable inclination by the operation of a lever 27 and rods 26. An axial discharge outlet may be provided in place of the grating 12. Material is fed through an inlet 14 and air through an inlet 15. The chambers may be of various shapes and, in the axial direction, may be inclined relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor. A fan may be used in conjunction with the mill, the inlet 14 may be axial, and the rotor may be adjustable axially to vary the width of the annular passage between one ring of cells 10 and the succeeding ring 11, the rotor disc then having a coned periphery. A rotor disc 19, Fig. 15, rotating in the opposite direction to the disc 6 may carry the ring of chambers 10 at its periphery and the guides 9 on its rear face. A number of rotors may be mounted on the same shaft, and the chambers of succeeding rings may be given successively increasing inclinations to the rotor radii. The blades 8, 9, may be given a stepped form, Fig. 31, and co-operate with two pairs of rings. As a result of alternate high and low pressure eddies propagated in the chamber by the grinding members an internal bursting of the particles of material is said to take place.
