Abstract

643,227. Casting concrete walls in situ. MACKIE, R. July 15, 1948, No. 19021. [Class 20(ii)] Shuttering for casting cavity walls is a development of the invention of Specification 612,490 (which includes panels flanged along their vertical edges, uprights to receive the flanged edges of the panels and distance pieces to hold apart the uprights supporting the panels in the cavity) according to which a vertical edge of each cavity upright 3A is formed with wall-tie receiving notches 12, a filling piece 13 for each notch is pivoted at 14 to the upright and so proportioned that, when it engages its notch, there is a gap between it and the bottom of the notch, and all the uprights and distance pieces have transverse slots 16 which are adapted to register to form passageways through the assembled shuttering, and gauge bars 17 are inserted through the passageways, being notched at 18 in accordance with the desired spacing of the uprights and distance pieces. When the shuttering is erected the filling pieces 13 are swung outwards and the wall ties 15 inserted, being held in place until the concrete has set by the filling pieces 13 when swung back again to engage the notches. The uprights 3A can be removed when the wall ties 15 have become embedded by moving them sideways so that the filling pieces 13 are swung outwards as they strike the stationary ties. The gauge bars 17 may be held in place by locking bars 19 inserted in the slots 16 after the gauge bars have been placed in position. Additional locking bars 20 may be fitted in slots in the ends of the gauge bars, bearing against the uprights and so holding the gauge bars in place.
