Abstract

[Class 5(i)] [Also in Group VI] A knife as used in a cutting machine of the type in which the knife reciprocates at high-speed comprises a back plate 1 of a synthetic resin or other plastic to which is affixed adhesively a cutting portion 2 of high grade steel. The back plate may be recessed 3 to receive the steel blade and there may be an intermediate layer of wood veneer 4 between the blade and back plate which may be slotted 6 to facilitate attachment and adjustment. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a typical to bacco cutting machine fitted with a knife 13 according to the invention and having a feed trough T, endless conveyer band C, feed rolls D, and a mouth piece E.
