Abstract

A dental impression composition comprises a gel-forming agent, a fluosilicate and a metal, preferably lead, silicate. The gel-forming agent may be a water-soluble salt of alginic acid, preferably the sodium, potassium, or ammonium salt. A filler such as diatomaceous earth, talc, or clay is added and then the lead silicate. Calcium sulphate in the form of the hemihydrate may be incorporated, and then the fluosilicate of aluminium, sodium, potassium, barium, strontium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, or manganese. A small amount of tetrasodium pyrophosphate is added and the whole mixed dry without any increase in temperature in a ball mill. In a modification, the fluosilicate and calcium sulphate are reacted in the presence of water and the stone-like product is ground and incorporated in the mix. The product may be stored if kept dry, and on moistening sets to an elastic mass.
