[Class 83 (iv)] A board hammer comprises in combination with one or each of the vertical hammer head guides a, a ramp c, which is suspended from its upper end d, and fluid or mechanically-operable means f for varying the inward inclination of the ramp, the latter being adapted to exert a restraining force on the hammer head so that it may be lowered slowly and in a controllable manner if required.
