Abstract
641,262. Stapling fibres. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24289. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1946. [Class 120(iii)] A device for cutting filamentary material of indefinite length into discontinuous lengths comprises a rotatable cutter head 2, which may be in the form of a disc mounted on a shaft 3 having a driving pulley 5; and a cutting element 6, such as a knife blade, adjacent the periphery of the cutter head 2. the cutter head 2 having a filament passage 8 having an axial entrance 9 and a generally radial discharge portion 10. An injector 11 is arranged above the cutter head and has an internal filament-guiding tube 13 and an annular chamber 14 which communicates with a generally frusto-conical annular opening 16 so that any fluid introduced into the chamber 14 by the conduit 17 is discharged as an annular envelope surrounding the filament and thus facilitates. the drawing of the filament through the tube. Modifications of the device provide for a plurality of cutters and an injector which is attached to the rotatable cutter head. Specification 289,028, [Class 120(iii)], is referred to.
