Abstract

640,925. Ignition magnetos. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. May 23, 1947, No. 13950. Convention date, May 23, 1946. [Class 35] An ignition magneto having a rotary magnet which produces one complete flux reversal per revolution has a cam which produces a breaker opening of less than 90 degrees. The rotor is energized by a pair of magnets 77, 78 disposed mutually at right-angles, both imparting a North polarity to the laminated pole-shoe 79 and a South polarity to the remaining laminated core-member 80. This has three pole shoes, only those in contact with the South poles of the magnets being effective. The stator comprises a pair of independent coils 10 wound on cores 54 and having pole shoes 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, each stator unit being operated independently and having an interrupter 24, 28 connected to it and operated by a cam on the rotor shaft 61. The coils 10 are seated in apertures 37 provided with a protective pad 40 having a channel-shaped depression 42 for conducting the H.T. lead from the coil. The circuit interrupter is mounted on a metal arm 18 secured at 19 and fixed in an adjusted position by a screw 21 in a slot 20. Upstanding ears 22, 23 carry the stationary contact and the springs 25, 27 carrying the cam follower 26 and the movable contact 28 respectively. The construction described is almost identical with that of Specification 640,926.
