Abstract

640,625. Corrugating. ARMCO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. June 21, 1948, No. 16673. [Class 83 (iv)] Formers.-Apparatus for bending tubing into serpentine shape comprises a fixed former 12 and a former 25 on a lever 15 mounted on a pin 16. The former 25 is carried on a carriage 26, slidable against pressure of a spring 35 in a slot in the lever 15. The tubing T is clamped to the carriage by a member 42 actuated by a cam 43. The tube T is positioned under the former 12 and over the former 25; the free end is anchored by hand bending about a support 7 and the clamp 42 is secured. On swinging the lever 15 by hand or power through 180 degrees, the tube is corrugated about the formers 12, 25 and a cam 9 moves the carriage 26 to release the tube from the formers. During the bending the carriage 26 rides on the arm 15 to allow for the shortening of the tube due to the bending. The formers 12, 25 may be grooved to bend two tubes and may be provided with flattened portions to assist removal of the bent tube.
