[Class 71] [Also in Groups XIII and XXVII An energized stream of atmospheric air is induced in an open-ended convergentdivergent nozzle by compressed air at a low temperature which is introduced through slots in the wall of the convergent portion of the nozzle, the down-stream wall of each slot forming a smooth continuation of the nozzle wall. The energized stream may be used in a turbine or a jet propulsion nozzle. In the turbine shown in Fig. 4 the nozzle passages 28 are convergent-divergent. The compressed and cooled air is fed to the hollow nozzle walls 27 and emerges through slots 29. It induces a stream of atmospheric air and the engergized stream acts on the turbine rotor blades 33 and leaves through straightenirig blades 34. In the plant shown in Fig. 1, the compressed and cooled air is introduced through slots 29 to a single nozzle 30 and induces an airstream which enters past guide vanes 36 and drives a turbine rotor 28. The' turbine provides useful power and also drives a compressor 35 which raises to atmospheric the pressure of the over-expanded air-stream. Air for a low temperature injector 30 is compressed in a reciprocating pump 18, the heat of compression is extracted at 23 and the air is cooled in a chamber 25 which contains a coil 16 through which passes brine from a refrigeration plant 1.
