Abstract

639,610. Optical systems. WATSON & SONS, Ltd., W., HOPKINS, H. H., and WAITT, H. Nov. 3, 1947, No. 29277. [Class 97 (i)] An optical system for producing an image of continuously variable size of an object at a fixed, distance from the system comprises two fixed negative lenses, two positive lenses which are movable therebetween along a common optical axis and adjusting means for continuously and differentially moving the positive lenses by amounts such that. the distance from the fixed lenses at which the image of said object is focused remains constant, while the size of said image is continuously varied. The system may be constructed as an attachment to fit in front of the objective of. a camera and, in the form shown, comprises a body tube 7 to the front end of which is attached, by means described in Specification 639,611, a cell 12 carrying a plano-concave lens 13 and to the rear end of which is attached a cell 14 carrying a plano-concave lens 16; adjacent the latter lens is the objective 17 of a kinematograph camera to which the system is secured by an axially slidable bracket (not shown). Slidable within the body tube 7 are telescopic tubes 22, 23 of which tube 23 supports a cell 20 carrying a plano-convex lens 18, while the inner tube 22 supports a cell 21 carrying a plano-convex lens 19. The adjusting means for differentially moving the tubes 22, 23 and the positive lenses supported thereby is described in Specification 639,612.
