Abstract
639,611. Optical systems. WATSON & SONS, Ltd., W., and HOPKINS, H. H. Nov. 13, 1947, No. 29320. [Class 97 (i)] In a variable magnification optical system which comprises a body member carrying three or more coaxial lenses of which at least one of the two outer: lenses is not movable by magni. fication-varying means for moving at least one of the other lenses relative to the body member to vary the image size of an object at a fixed distance from the system, the outer lens or at least one of said outer lenses when they are both not movable by said magnification varying means is mounted for axial adjustment by focusing means, operable independently of the magnification varying means. The system shown is described in Specifications 639,610 and 639,612, and is attached to a kinematograph camera 1 as described in Specification 639,610. One of the outer lenses 13 is carried by a cell 12 which is slidable within a body tube 7 and has diametrically opposite pins 51, 52 which carry feathers 55, 56 engaged in cam slots 57, 58 in the body tube 7. When cell 12 is rotated by a knurled rim 59, the lens 13 is thus moved axially to focus the system on an object at a certain distance from the system. The rear lens 16 may also be adjustably mounted on the body tube 7.
