Abstract
593,514. Lens systems. JEFFREE, J. H. Oct. 17, 1944, No. 20097. [Class 97 (i)] A lens system for a wide aperture anastigmatic objective consists of, in order of arrangement, a positive doublet of unsymmetrical form with the convex surface or the more convex surface to the front, one or two positive components and a rear divergent component located near the rear conjugate focus and giving the desired anastigmatic correction, the doublet being corrected or over-corrected in order to offset the chromatic aberration of the uncorrected central lens or lenses. The doublet may consist of a front bi-convex lens of methyl methacrylate polymer, the front surface of which may be aspherical, and a bi-concave lens moulded from polystyrene. In the form shown, a bi-convex lens 13 having an aspherical front surface is cemented to a bi-concave lens 14, separated by an air space from single convergent lenses 15, 16 moulded from polymethyl methacrylate, these lenses, in turn, being so separated from a plano-concave lens 17, moulded from polystyrene. The convex surface 12 of a cathode-ray tube located at the rear conjugate focus, is imaged anastigmatically on a screen at the front conjugate focus. Temperature variations may be reduced as described in Specification 561,503, e.g. by making part of the front component of the system of glass. Optical data are given.
