Abstract

638,459. Goggles. ABBEY, A. (American Optical Co.). Feb. 9, 1948, No. 3733. [Class 97 (i)] Goggles comprise a pair of eyecups of non- metallic heat resistant material each shaped at 5 to fit the face and having a forward edge 6 supporting a shield 7, the outer side of each eyecup having an aperture 15 closed by a domed shield 18 perforated to allow sideways vision and to assist ventilation. The shield 18 has edge flanges inclined to the shield and fitted into recesses 16 in the eyecup, the shield being domed so that vision in the direction of the arrow B is possible. Ventilating air can enter the perforations in the direction of the arrows 22 and 23. The supporting edge 6 is provided with slots 10 coinciding with circumferential slots on a shield-retaining ring 9 to assist in ventilation. The eyecups are connected by a bridge comprising a ball-chain member 29 held in each eyecup by engagement with a slot 32 in a clip 31 pivoted at 34 to the eyecup.
