[Classes 16 and 146 (i)] The manifold recording appliance of the parent Specification is modified in that the spring urged gripping means are moved to the sheet releasing position by means of an operating lever hinged to the supporting plate of the appliance. At one end of the supporting plate 1 spring-urged binding posts 3, which extend through holes in the record sheets 5, fit into shallow recesses on the underside of a clamping bar 2 held down by hinged clips 4 and hinged by end bars to the end walls of a box-like housing 8 on the underside of the plate 1. A number of registration pins 9, each formed with a mushroom head 10 to act as the gripping means, are mounted to pass through slots in the record sheets 5, the head 10 engaging the edge 12 of a card 11 inserted under the top sheet 5 with the edge 12 in contact with the registration pins 9. The pins 9 pass through a guide plate 14 supported by a bar 15 on the plate 1 and are urged downwardly to gripping position by leaf springs 17 secured to the bar 15 which engage a reduced portion 16. To the inner wall 19 of the housing 8 is hinged at 20 a rigid plate 21 having a thumb piece 22 extending into a recess in the outer wall 18 of the housing 8 and a stop member 24 to limit the upward movement. The pins 9 are moved all together to the release position of the heads 10 by the engagement of their lower ends 28 with metal inserts 29 on the plate 21 as the plate is moved upwards. A catch, co-operating with the thumb piece 22, may be provided for holding the plate 21 in the raised position. The downward movement of the plate 21 is limited by a cover plate 25 detachably fixed to the outer walls of the housing 8 as by screws. the cover 25 having a recess to correspond with the thumb piece 22 to allow easy access thereto. Fixed registration pins 9 may be provided in addition to the movable pins having gripping heads. As in the parent Specification, a place finder 30, which also serves as a hard writing-surface, may be provided hinged to the opposite edge of the plate 1 and a suitable cover may be provided.
