Abstract
637,946. Auxiliary air admission. CYSTER, J., and WINKELMAN, R. May 31, 1948, No. 14691. [Class 7 (ii)] An extra-air admission device comprises a stem 35 screwed at 32 for attachment to the intake pipe and at 34 for the attachment of a cover 44, the extra air entering through a port 45 controlled by a sliding sleeve 46 lifted by suction, and flowing through an annular space 51, ports 52, annular space 47 and ports 41 to a passage 42 in the stem 35. At starting the sleeve occupies the position shown in Fig. 3 wherein the narrow passage 47 restricts the admission of extra air, the reduction in the suction in the intake pipe on opening the throttle valve allowing the sleeve 46 to drop slightly so that the ports 52 partly coincide with the ports 41 to increase the extra-air flow.
