Abstract

637,651. Machinery guards. FORMAN & SONS, Ltd., T., and COOKE, G. U. Jan. 21, 1947, No. 1853. [Class 80 (iv)] A safety guard for punch presses comprises fixed side arms 6 connected by a rod 8, the arms 6 having channels 10 in which are slidably mounted blocks 17, 20, fixed together. Blocks 7 are connected by rods 18, 19, and blocks 20 by rods 21, 22, 23. The blocks 17, 20 are held frictionally in the channels 10 by spring-pressed bars 11. The rods 21, 22, 23, are in a vertical plane in front of the rods 8, 18, 19. Adjustable pegs 24 carried by the platen 2 reciprocate between the rods 18, 19, the stroke of the press platen being equal to the distance between these two rods. The platen 2 is driven through bars 4 from an eccentric 3 and the height of its stroke may be varied when various sizes of punches are to be used by rotation of a handweel 5. The height of the slidable guard is adjusted simultaneously by the engagement of the pegs 24 with the rod 18 or 19. The position of the pegs 24 may be adjusted relatively to the platen 2 by a parallel linkage provided with a graduated scale.
