[Class 81(ii)] An implant member forming part of an artificial eye is adapted to be seated and moved by the parts of the motive structure of an individual's eye in a manner substantially similar to that of a natural eye and comprises a ball portion of a size and shape to fit within the eye socket and embodying means for maintaining said parts of the motive structure of an individual's eye in substantially their naturally spaced positions relative to each other and about the implant member, whereby, when in assembled relation with the motive structure: said implant member will respond to the normal functions of the parts of said motive structure and in a manner approaching that of a natural eye. As shown in Fig. 9 an implant member comprises a ball portion 1 to which each eye muscle 26 is attached by means of tantalum wire and a tantalum plate 23 the tongue 25 of which is positioned in a recess 20 in the ball, wire also being threaded through passages 21 adjacent the recesses 20, the conjunctiva then being drawn round the eyeball. An iris portion 2 is located in a recess in the front of the ball and is covered by a transparent layer 3.
