Abstract
510,946. Spectacles. WRIGHT, W. F. Jan. 5, 1938, No. 275. [Class 97 (i)] Relates to contact lenses or glasses having an annular eyeengaging portion of material, preferably flexible, other than glass, e.g., plastic material, and a central portion spaced from the eyeball, either of the same material or of glass, and consists in colouring the iris portion, or the whole or almost the whole of the device, or modifying it to provide a reflecting surface or an imitation cat's eye, to simulate the eye of another person or animal, or to make the eye appear to protrude; or in providing the device with an artificial natural or unnatural iris of small aperture. Devices of various shapes are described. When the: annular and central portions are of different materials, they are welded together, and a sup-. porting flange 26, Fig. 4, may be provided. The surfaces of the central portion may be of the, same or different radii. Friction with the eyelid may be reduced by providing ribs 32 or projections 31, Fig. 12a, on the annular portion. According to the Provisional Specification, additional flexibility may be imparted to the device by forming slits in the annular portion ; minute holes or a state of porosity may be introduced into the device to allow evaporation of liquid accumulating inside it; and the material of the device preferably conducts heat well.
