Abstract
637,161. Reciprocating motors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and ROBERTSON, J. S. P. April 16, 1946, No. 11670. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXIX] An electromagnetic vibrator comprises a permanent magnet 4, polepieces 12, an armature 6 and alternating current coils 5 and 5A, the armature comprising a block of magnetic material mounted on a vibratable arm which forms no part of the magnetic circuits, and the block being positioned between polepieces of the same polarity and adjacent a third polepiece of opposite polarity, the A.C. flux circuits being independent of the permanent magnet. In the construction shown, the flux from the permanent magnet which forms the third polepiece runs through the yoke 2 and 3 to the polepieces on each side of the armature. The flux from the alternating coils runs through the yoke from one pole on one side of the armature to that on the other side. The supporting reed for the armature comprises two L-shaped pieces slotted to facilitate vibration. The diaphragm 9 is driven by a rod 8 which may be joined to the reed between its point of support and the armature as shown, or it may be joined to the reed on the other side of the armature.
