Abstract
636,436. Pyrotechnic devices. HAND, H. T. Jan. 27, 1948, No. 2481. [Class 9 (ii)] A toy detonator has a non - rupturing cylindrical casing 1 of drawn or moulded thermosetting plastic material with longitudinal slots 3 and is closed by a cap 6 having an annular flange bevelled to fit the correspondingly bevelled end of the casing. The cap has a strengthening annular rib 9. A detonating cap 10 comprising two circular discs 11 enclosing an explosive charge 12 is placed between pebbles 13 loosely filling the casing. On throwing the detonator against a hard surface the pebbles move sufficiently to detonate the cap 10, and the slots allow the pressure waves set up to escape without rupturing the casing. Central orifices are provided in the closure cap 6 and in the bottom of the casing. After assembly the cap 6 is cemented to the casing.
