Abstract

1,044,277. Anti-tank mines. A.E.B.I. Aug. 12, 1964, No. 32893/64. Heading F3A. A non-magnetic mine has a pneumatic operating device with a striker moving against an element which breaks under an applied load; the pneumatic device and the mine casing are made of plastics and there is a train of explosive charges. The operating device comprises a body A with a recess a 1 accommodating a striker B and a flexible diaphragm C held in place by a rigid disc D having a calibrated passage d 1 to provide communication between two chambers X, Y. A deformable lid G is connected to the body A by a resilient ring g 2 while a plug M is screwed into the body and holds a calibrated element L which has the form of a spoked wheel and supports a shoulder of the striker B carrying a firing pin. Application of a load deforms the lid G and air in the chamber X flows along the passage d 1 into the chamber Y to act on the diaphragm C and when the corresponding load transmitted to the element L is sufficient to break the element the striker and pin move axially to initiate charges N, P, Q, V and Z, the two latter charges being formed in layers. The casing of the mine is completed by a wall U with a handle K and a base W with a plug J. All parts except the firing pin and charges are made from thermoplastic materials. An embodiment shows the striker made in two pieces and the calibrated element made of anodized aluminium.
