[Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In apparatus for delivering sliver into one of a plurality of cans, the delivery is transferred from one can to another automatically, whilst the production of sliver is temporarily suspended. The suspension, transfer and re-starting of production preferably are effected upon delivery of a predetermined amount of sliver. When applied to a combing machine having a sliver receiving table 7, drawing rollers enclosed in a box 9, condensing rollers 13 and a coiler head 17, the operation of the apparatus of the invention is controlled by a yardage counter 97 driven by a shaft 99, which also drives the lower calender roller 13. When a predetermined amount of sliver has been delivered, counter 97 interrupts the supply of current to the main machine driving motor and simultaneously closes a circuit supplying a motor 95, which effects the transfer, following which the two circuits are restored to their original condition. The motor 95 moves a crank 89 through 180 degrees. This movement is transmitted through a link 75 to a rod 63 mounted between a lever 69 and a hub 65 forming part of a plate 61 bolted to the coiler head 17. The coiler head 17 is swingable about a shaft 33, under the influence of the link 75, to positions above cans, such as 47, on turn tables 100, (see Fig. 3). Simultaneously with movement of the coiler head 17, the drive to the appropriate turn table 100 is put into gear by a lever 107 associated with lever 69.
