636,063. Cylinders. RAWLINGS, G. W. Aug. 28, 1947, No. 23805. [Class 7 (ii)] In a miniature compression-ignition engine a contra piston for varying the cylinder compressionratio comprises two discs 21, 23 of metal, e.g. steel, enclosing malleable material 24, e.g. lead, or a soft aluminium alloy, which expands under cylinder pressure to make a tight joint. The compression ratio is adjusted by screwing the cylinder'head on the barrel. A stem 31 is preferably provided for machining the piston. The malleable material is bonded to the metal discs and the contacting surfaces may be frustoconical.
