Abstract

633,508. Hair-waving appliances. EUGENE, Ltd. (Eugene Soc. Anon.). June 3, 1947, Nos. 14707 and 31208: [Class 131] An appliance for permanent waving of hair comprises a slotted flexible pad, no part of the slot extending to the edges of the pad, and a connector to which one end of a rodlike curler can be secured. As shown the rubber pad 10 is provided with a slit 16, through which a tress of hair can be drawn, and a metal bridge piece 12 having inturned feet embedded in the pad and provided with an openended slot 14 to receive the squared neck 21 of the curler. Curlers for point and root winding are described having ratchet devices for one-way winding to tighten the coiled tress. In modifications the connector takes the form of a plug and socket device or a hook on the curler engaging a bar extending across a socket in the pad. The first Provisional Specification describes a modification in which the socket has the form of a key-hole slot in which opposed transverse grooves at the end of the curler engage.
