Abstract
633,420. Composite kinematography. KUDAR, J. Nov. 25, 1946, No. 34943. [Class 98 (ii)] In the travelling mask process, particularly for colour work, the background is illuminated by a narrow spectral range in the visible spectrum against which the emulsion of at least one of a number of films simultaneously exposed is protected by a sharply selective filter. Mercury vapour lamps with yellow filters, or preferably sodium vapour lamps are used for illumination of a plain background and the foreground scene is photographed through a didymium or neodymium filter. The background may be coloured yellow and the foreground illumination may be through neodymium filters. A subtractive colour film and a single emulsion film may be exposed simultaneously with a beam splitter-the colour film through a neodymium filter, the single emulsion film through a yellow filter. Alternatively, two bipacks may be similarly exposed, one for red and green records through a neodymium filter, the other having an only-blue sensitive emulsion for the blue record and an emulsion for recording the mask protected by a yellow filter. For black-and-white or additive colour films a single bipack may be used with the foreground scene film in front and a panchromatic film behind protected by a yellow filter, the foreground illumination being through didymium filters.
