Abstract
705,256. Composite kinematography. HOULT, R. L., and DENHAM LABORATORIES, Ltd. April 30, 1951 [May 4, 1950], No. 11053/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2) A foreground subject is placed in front of a backing and subject and backing are illuminated with lights in non-overlapping spectral zones, images of subject and backing being recorded separately, by means of a beam splitting camera, on separate films from which positives are produced. A further film is then printed twice, once from the foreground positive and once from a positive of a new background in register with the recorded background positive. The films exposed in the camera may be differently colour sensitized so as to record only foreground and background respectively and this separation may be assisted by the use of filters or by making the partially reflecting layer in the beam splitter in the form of an interference filter. In the described embodiment the foreground object is illuminated by yellow light and the backing by blue, or blue and red, in which case the backing is coloured blue.
