Abstract
633,186. Supply systems for welding. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and BEAUMONT, F. N. Oct. 22, 1947, No. 28238. [Class 38 (iv)] To obtain a low no-load voltage on a welding electrode 5 a current transformer 7 is connected in the secondary circuit of the welding transformer 2 and designed to saturate at a low current. When the electrode is brought into contact with the work 6 the secondary current of the current transformer actuates a relay 8 to short-circuit, directly or indirectly, an impedance 1 in the primary circuit of the welding transformer. The transformer 7 may have a bar primary or the secondary circuit conductor may so serve. The relay 8 preferably has completely sealed mercury contacts and may control a second relay. The elements 1, 7 and 8 may be housed in a single unit. The impedance may be a resistance or choke, and variable.
