Abstract
633,169. Mounting grinding-wheels. ALLEMANN, H. Aug. 7, 1947, No. 21587. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1946. [Class 60] A grinding-wheel 13 is carried by a selfcentring holder mounted on a cylindrical portion of an arbor 2 and locked thereto in such a way that the locking action takes place substantially in a plane contained by the wheel without disturbing the axial position of the latter. The holder comprises a sleeve 4 loosely fitting the arbor and provided with a collar 5 and a threaded portion 6 to receive a nut 7, a sleeve 9 similarly provided with a collar 12, and a nut 11 which secures the wheel, and a sleeve 16 which has a tapered end to coact with a tapered portion of the bore of the sleeve 9. When the nut 7 is rotated to displace the sleeve 16 so as to clamp the sleeve 4 to the arbor and centre the sleeve 9, relative rotation between the sleeves is prevented by a screw 18 which is threaded into the sleeve 9 and has a flattened end to pass through one of a number of longitudinal slots in each of the sleeves 16 and 4. The end of the screw is received by a key-way 3 in the arbor. The collars 12 and 5 are continuously in contact during the locking operation so that the axial position of the wheel. is not affected.
