[Class 60] Apparatus for grinding the ends of workpieces a comprises a grinding wheel having a circumferential groove g<SP>1</SP> to receive the ends of the workpieces, and a carrier disc c having peripheral slots c<SP>1</SP> in which the workpieces are rotated by a positivelydriven and rotatable member h which may b resilient or resiliently mounted. This latter member may be obliquely disposed to the plane of the carrier. The workpieces are fed from a chute b into the slots which are shown in Fig. 1, as formed in the periphery and one side face of the carrier disc which is provided with guards d, e to hold the workpieces in position. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement for the end grinding of collared spindles. Collars k are provided to support the workpieces and a spring-loaded member l ensures adequate grinding pressure. The axis of the carrier may be inclined to the axis of the grinding wheel. More than one carrier can be used with one grinding wheel which would then be formed with a corresponding number of grooves.
