Abstract

632,116. Vehicle windscreens. BRIGGS MOTOR BODIES, Ltd., and TILBURY, J. Dec. 19, 1947, No. 33638. [Class 20(iii)] A front windscreen structure for a motor vehicle comprises a window opening and a single transparent panel 1 mounted in the opening with the lower horizontal edge 10 supported below the top surface of the bonnet 2 and the upper portion projecting above the bonnet into the opening. The panel is mounted in guides at the sides and passes between the flange 7 of the rear of the bonnet and the flange 9 of the vehicle body portion forming the instrument panel 8. The lower edge 10 of the panel is held in a support 11 which has a gutter 12 connected to hoses &c. to remove water. The panel is operated by toggle levers 13, 14 which are pivoted together at 15 while the arm 13 is also pivotally connected to the support at 16 and arm 14 is pivotally mounted at 17 to a fixed part of the vehicle. An arm 18 secured to the arm 11 extends below the instrument panel and is moved to open (dot dash lines) or close (full lines) as shown in Fig. 2. A toggle mechanism is mounted at both sides to give parallel movement. A weather seal is provided at the top and sides of the opening. Wiper blade arms 19 mounted on a shaft 20 extending through the panel operate through the slot in the bonnet and rest beneath the bonnet.
