632,003. Refrigerating. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 6, 1948, No. 375. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1947. [Class 29] An evaporator unit for an air cooler comprises circular evaporator coils 22 mounted between annular upper and lower plates 12, 50, a fan 16 coaxially mounted for circulating air over the coils, and an annular drip tray 62 within the lower annular plate 50, the inner upturned edge 52 of which is shielded from the air stream by a shroud 70. The top plate 12 is attached to the ceiling or other supporting structure by brackets 10 and is flared downwardly to direct the air over the coils, the central portion carrying the fan motor 14. The evaporator pipes are secured by U-bolts 20 attached to the brackets 10, and are spaced by spacers 24. Brackets 56 carried by the U-bolts support the lower plate 50 which is of channel formation and carries from its inner wall 52 the annular drip tray 62 with a drain pipe 64. The expansion valve is arranged in the gap between the ends of the coils so that condensate drips into into the tray 62. A grill 80 is carried by the fan shroud 70.
