Abstract

630,834. Protective cut-out systems; electromagnetic switches; thermal switches. ROTAX, Ltd., and BOURNE, W. G. Dec. 22, 1947, No. 33769. [Class 38(v)] A device for tripping open a three-phase circuit in the event of unbalanced phase conditions, comprises three U-shaped bimetal strips b, c, d connected in respective phases and supporting at points f an insulating rocker disc e controlled by a spring j and carrying a contact h which co-operates with an annular contact i. An electromagnet' k, controlled by the contacts h, i, has an L-shaped armature m supported by a spring blade n such that contacts o. p are normally closed and contacts q, r open. D.C. is fed to the terminals 2, 3 of the tripping and closing circuit, and the electromagnet 4 is. normally energized to hold the breaker closed. On unbalancedphase conditions the rocker e is tilted so that the contacts h, i are closed and the electromagnet k is energized to open contacts o, p, whereby the magnet 4 is deenergized and the breaker opens, the magnet k being held energized over closed contacts q, r to prevent automatic reclosure of the breaker when the normal condition of the device is restored. Reclosure is effected by momentarily opening a push-button switch 6 which permits'the armature m to return and complete the closing circuit of the magnet 4.
