Abstract
630,171. Means for controlling direction of rotation. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S., and MOSS, E. B. May 29, 1947, No. 14335. [Class 80 (iv)] A device for ensuring the correct direction of rotation is incorporated in two fibre wheels 11, 12 of an electric clock gear train. A phosphor bronze plate 13 having a resilient limb 22 is frictionally engaged with the gear wheel 12 by a helical compression spring 14 abutting the shoulder 17 of a sleeve 15, and has two fingers 18, 19, between which is disposed a pillar 20. The gear wheel 11 has an abutment pin 23, which also may be resilient, so positioned that it engages the limb 22 on incorrect direction of rotation, causing the wheel to rebound in the correct direction whereupon the plate 13 tilts until the finger 18 engages the pillar 20 when the limb 22 clears the abutment pin 23. The spring 14 may be dispensed with by dishing and making resilient the centre portion of the plate 13.
