Abstract
628,849. Drilling; chucks. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. Feb. 14, 1947, No. 4315. Convention date, July 17, 1946. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] In a drilling-machine of the type described in Specification 560,555 having a rotary hollow feed-screw 8, fluid is supplied to the drill 5 through a stationary shaft 27 having a bore 23, the shaft 27 being provided with a fluid seal 26 which includes a disc 69 co-operating with a ring 59 fast with a casing 42 secured to the feed-screw. The casing 42 and the shaft 27 are maintained in axial alignment by bearings 38, 43. The fluid seal (see Group XXVIII), may be of the type described in Specification 593,413, [Group XXVI]. Drill-shanks ; sockets.-A socket 7 is screwed on to the end of the feed-screw 8 and is threaded internally to receive a coupling 6 carrying a drill-rod section 5. The drill-rod or shank is lengthened by adding similar sections 5 and couplings 6. In a modification, the casing 42 is coupled directly to a drill-rod section and the rod is drivingly-connected with the feed-screw 8 by a chuck. Lubricating machines; reservoirs.-Grease in a chamber 56 lubricates the bearings 38, 43.
