628,776. Endless chain conveyers. RANSOMES, SIMS, & JEFFERIES, Ltd., BAYLEY, A. M., and JARVIS, J. S. Oct. 13, 1947, No. 27424. [Class 78 (i)] An elevator or conveyer comprises parallel endless chains connected by crossbars supporting floor plates fitted with teeth. The chains 1 (Fig. 7) carry brackets 6 to which are bolted at 5 angle section crossbars 4 to the horizontal flanges of which are welded floor plates 7. The floor plates 7 are formed with rounded ends 8 (Fig. 6) which co-operate with the edges 9 of the following plates to form a continuous surface. Welded in pairs to the plates 7 are saw-tooth shaped teeth 10. The chains 1 pass around sprockets 2, 3 (Fig. 1) and between these the rollers of the chains run on guides 39, 40, the latter being curved to keep the chains clear of a delivery chute 41. Grass to be dried is carried by the elevator from a chute 11 to a trimming roller 12 which is formed with helical teeth or combs 13 formed in two series of opposite hand meeting in the centre. The teeth or combs 13 engage any grass extending above a predetermined level from the elevator to push it outwardly from the centre and off the elevator. The grass is then carried to a stripping roller 14 formed similarly to the roller 12 but provided with alternate combs 15 and brushes 16 having a smaller helical angle than the combs 13 and which discharge the grass into the chute 41. The elevator is driven from a motor 17 connected by a V-belt 21 to rotate a shaft 18 which drives the rollers 12, 14 through flat belts 38, 34, and is also connected by V-belts 25 to drive the input shaft 22 of a variable speed gear the output shaft 30 of which drives the sprockets 3 through chains 27.
