[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XXXVII and XL (c)] Condenser arrangements; switching control.- To obtain a linear change of voltage with time for tuning the energization of a relay a condenser is charged while the voltage applied to the charging circuit is being increased in accordance with the state of charge. A resistance 18 is connected in series with a high vacuum valve 17 and a condenser 20 in series with a resistance 19 is connected across the resistance 18. The control electrode 17c of the valve is connected to the junction 19, 20. When this valve circuit is closed at 13c across the source 10, 11 the cathode 17a rises in potential to A<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, and the condenser 20 begins to charge. Every increase of'potential of electrode 17c increases the conductivity of the valve so that the potential drop across resistance 18 rises as at A, Fig. 2. Curve B shows the potential of the control electrode 17c and either of these variables may be used for timing. Fig. 1 shows a relay 15 energized through an electron valve 16 of which the control electrode is subject to the potential of the cathode 17a, the potential of cathode 16a being adjusted by potentiometer 21 to determine the interval between operation of a switch 24 and energization of the relay 15.
