Abstract
628,191. Spinners. C.S.A. INDUSTRIES, Ltd., MARSHALL, F. G., and PAUL, P. Feb. 6, 1947, No. 3511. [Class 114] Prevention of ice formation about the entry 15 of a spinner of the type comprising coaxial inner and outer shells 10, 11 is effected by a scraper 12 relatively rotable about the shells 10, 11 during flight. The scraper 12 comprises an open wire frame having a head 13a secured to a shaft 13 mounted in an antifriction bearing 14 to resist rotation. A plurality of wires 12a extend rearwardly from the head 13a adjacent the nose 10a, cross the entry 15 at 12b and follow the leading edge 11a at 16, where they are connected together by a wire 17. The frame may comprise metallic tubular members enclosing electrical heating elements supplied from a slip-ring 25 through a lead 27, a second ring 29, a brush 31, a lead 33, the shaft 13 and a return lead 28. The current supply is controlled automatically by a humid thermostat 52 having a manual override switch 53. In a modification a generator rotor is mounted on the nose interior, the stator being formed on the shaft 13. Specification 627,885 is referred to.
