Abstract
627,722. Igniting burners. MARSDEN, J. R. Nov. 1, 1946, No. 32549. [Class 75(iii)] [Also in Group XXI] A gas turbine engine has mounted on it an igniter 15 for initiating combustion, the igniter comprising a breech mechanism formed with a chamber 18 to receive a cartridge 19 and with a passage 23 which, by communicating with the chamber 18 and with the combustion space of the engine, initiates combustion when the cartridge is discharged. In the construction shown a number of cartridges are carried by a cylindrical magazine 17 whose spindle 20 is held between a forked portion 21 of the igniter by a pin 22. The cartridges when in the operative position are in line with a contact 26 through which current is supplied for effecting discharge. The igniter has a flange 16 whereby it is secured to the air casing 10 around the flame tube 11 of the engine. The magazine may be rotated in any known manner to bring the chambers 18 successively in line with the discharge device. In a modification the firing mechanism comprises a solenoid-operated or a trigger-operated striker.
