Abstract
627,603. Gripper shuttle looms; manipulating and tensioning weft; picking motion. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Nov. 22, 1946, No. 34635. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1945. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iii)] A gripper shuttle brought to rest by a swell 16 at position 9a is pushed back to position 9b to bring the end of the pick to the edge of the fabric ; superfluous weft is withdrawn from the shed and the pick tensioned by moving a hook 5 to position 5a, this movement also drawing weft from a bobbin 1 through a thread brake 4. Clamps 13, 15 then grip the ends of the pick and shears 12 cut the weft, the free end of which is taken by a gripper from position 8a to position 8 and attached to the next shuttle 9 ; as this occurs, the hook moves to position 5b to take up the slack and draw more weft from the bobbin. As the shuttle is picked, the hook returns to position 5, thus paying out the loop of weft, additional weft to complete the pick being drawn freely from the bobbin, since the brake 4 and a second brake 6 are then open ; as the' shuttle completes its travel, both brakes are applied. The brakes 4, 6 are described in Specification 605,475. Picking motion.-Picking is initiated by a cam-operated rod 80 acting through a bellcrank lever 84 to upset a toggle 73, 74, whereupon a spring 88 accelerates a picking stick 11. The toggle is re-set by the rod 80 acting through a lever 77.
