Abstract

627,599. Rope railways. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. Nov. 11, 1946, No. 33507. [Class 104(ii)] In a rope railway system having branches and wherein a driving chain carries abutments engaging the cars 11, an auxiliary endless-chain drive is provided at the junction of the branch track 12 with the main track 10 to propel a car either towards or from the main track 10 and so away from a fouling section. The auxiliary drive may be brought into operation when the junction is set for the branch track. An auxiliary drive chain 13 with guides 16, 17 is driven from the main driving chain by an endless chain 20 through disconnectible gearing and carries driving abutments 18. These abutments are pivoted to the chain 13 and can be kept operative by a guide 19, Fig. 2, which can be set forward to hold up the abutments or retracted to allow the abutments to pivot, either by the track switches, by hand, or by the pressure of bars on the branch track. The gearing between the chains 20, 13 may be disconnected when the track switches are set for the through main line.
