Abstract
Extreme pressure lubricants are obtained by adding compounds of the general formula <FORM:0626515/III/1> wherein X is halogen, to dimethyl silicone oils. Specification 575,668, [Group IV], is referred to.ALSO:Organosilicon compounds of the general formula <FORM:0626515/IV (b)/1> wherein X represents a halogen, are prepared by reacting a trimethylhalogenosilane with a compound of the formula <FORM:0626515/IV (b)/2> wherein X has the above significance and X1 is also a halogen atom. X may represent chlorine, bromine or fluorine and may be in the ortho, meta or preferably the para position on the benzene nucleus. X1 is preferably a bromine or iodine atom. The reaction may be effected in anhydrous ether, at room temperature or higher, or at temperatures above that at which refluxing takes place by employing superatmospheric pressures. In examples, p-chlorophenyl- and p-bromo-phenyl magnesium bromide is reacted with trimethylchlorosilane. Specification 575,668 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to an alternative method for preparing the above compound by effecting reaction between a halogenobenzene and lithium in anhydrous ether, and reacting the resulting solution with a trimethylhalogenosilane, e.g. trimethylchlorosilane, or a trimethyl alkoxysilane, e.g. trimethyl ethoxysilane. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
