Abstract
625,722. Impedance networks. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Inc. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 20990. Convention date, March 18, 1942. [Class 40 (viii)] A network for connecting a purely reactive equalizer having an impedance function Z to a line of characteristic resistance Ro has open circuit driving point impedances at its line and load terminals of Ro+ 2Ro<SP>2>/Z and 2Ro + Ro<SP>2>/Z respectively and an open circuit transfer impedance of #2(R<o>+Ro<SP>2>/Z). Such a network has an impedance when looking into it from either direction when the far end is closed with the appropriate line resistance Ro or equalizer impedance Z, and introduces the minimum possible attenuation (3 decibels) consistent with a flat input impedance characteristic for the combined network and equalizer. Fig. 1 shows a line 11 coupled to an equalizer 12 by one form of network according to the invention Ro<SP>2>/Z representing a network inverse with respect to that of the equalizer. Further networks are given of which Figs. 5, 7, and 9, are typical. Specification 542,175 is referred to.
