Abstract

625,243. Boring earth and rock. KOEBEL DIAMOND TOOL CO. July 21, 1947, No. 19517. Convention date, May 29, 1940. [Class 85] A bit for boring through rock and overburden comprises a cylindrical body reduced towards its lower end in a series of steps with relatively long vertical sides and relatively short horizontal sides, diamonds being set in said horizontal sides and in the lower end of the bit. As shown, a bit body 1 is connected to a drill rod 8 by a core barrel 9 tapered at its upper end to the diameter of the rod 8 ; the bit body is reduced downwardly in shallow steps 3, the horizontal faces 4 of which are set with diamonds. An ordinary diamond drill 7 is threaded to the bit body, the meeting faces 10 being tapered ; water grooves 5 may be provided. In another form, the drill 7 is omitted, diamonds being set in the lower end of the body 1. The bit may be solid.
