Abstract

(Classes 16 and 146 (i)] In an apparatus for manifold writing of the kind in which the documents having carbon sheets interposed are positioned and also fixed in position on a base plate by means of positioning rulers and other guides carried on the base plate, the carbon sheets are fixed in such a manner, that while permitting freedom of movement of each and every document, direct contact is provided between each of the documents to be located, and the ruler or guide used for locating it, by the provision of gaps or openings in the carbons through which the rulers project. Carbon sheets such as 16 and 18, Fig. 3, are clamped in position on a base plate 1, by spring pressed rods 20, which are actuated by cam levers 24. A document 13 placed under the lowermost carbon 16 is located by the edge 2b of a support 2, and is clamped in position by a spring pressed ruler 4a actuated by a cam lever 7. As shown diagramatically in Fig. 3, further documents such as 15 and 17 are located by the edges of the rulers 4, employed for clamping the underlying document, each ruler 4 being provided with recesses 12 which correspond in position to flaps 11 provided on the carbons. In a modification, the carbons instead of having flaps may have apertures for receiving projections on the ruler and may be clamped by a further ruler in place of the rods 20.
