Abstract

565,787. Damping sheets in duplicating machines. FORD; F. R. March 31, 1943, No. 5158. [Class 95] In duplicating machines of the type in which an original sheet bearing a mirror copy on the back is stretched around a cylinder 12, and in which moistened sheets are fed between the cylinder and a pressure roller 14, the copy sheets are damped by a moistening device which includes a rigid plate 18, carrying a feed wick 16, and a readily detachable plate 25, on which a moistening pad 26 is mounted so that one marginal portion of the pad projects beyond the edge of the plate and is thus exposed, a screw 31 (or equivalent means) being provided for drawing the two plates 18 and 25 towards each other, at a position remote from the exposed portion of the pad and acting at right angles to the planes of the plates. Light pressure between wick and pad is produced by tightening the screw which is grooved to engage slots and so remain attached firmly to the upper plate although it may have been disconnected from the lower plate. The copy sheets are pressed into contact with the moistening pad 26 by means of a bar 35, carried by a pair of bell-crank levers 36, pivoted at 37. Cams 41 on the ends of the cylinder 12 engage rollers 40 and so allow the bar 35 to be moved away from the moistening pad. A shorter second arm 42 of the levers is connected by light tension springs 43 to an adjustable screw 44. Specification 550,664 is referred to.
